Motivate Your Child to Brush by Doing These Things

Posted .

Do you struggle when motivating your child to brush their teeth? If so, you’re not alone. Brushing can be a chore that many children just don’t like to do. However, this doesn’t have to be the case if you don’t want it to be. There are things you can do and say to motivate your child to brush, and Dr. Truong Nguyen is happy to tell you about those things.

First, get your child a new toothbrush. While you’re at the store, let your child choose the brush they want. This might be a Spiderman or Disney Princess toothbrush, an electric toothbrush, or a toothbrush that plays music. These types might make oral hygiene more enjoyable for your child. You can also buy them their favorite toothpaste if that helps.

Second, educate your child by telling them that there are little bug-like particles on their smile that try to hurt the teeth every day. The only way those particles can be washed away is by brushing them off the teeth with a toothbrush. You can also encourage them to think their toothbrush is a superhero that is saving the smile.

Third, help them understand why they need to brush. You can ask them what their favorite candy is. Then, when they tell you, explain that because their favorite candy has sugar, they need to protect their teeth from that sugar by brushing. If they don’t brush, they shouldn’t have the candy.
